The families of Good Shepherd Parish in Tallahassee, Florida have a solidarity partnership with the Holy Spirit Parish of Kenge in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This ministry helps members on both sides practice their faith. As the body of Christ, they pray for one another and invite everyone in the community to a life-changing encounter with Jesus, the Way and Truth and the Life, the Road to the New Jerusalem.

CONGO MISSION APPEAL

For Fr. Jean Yangia, SVD is a member of the Society of the Divine Word serving in his home country of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Diocese of Kenge.

Fr. Jean, ordained in 2018, served in Tallahassee 2016-2017 as a seminarian with Fr. Anderson de Sousa, SVD at St. Eugene and with the Hispanic Community here at Good Shepherd.

An appeal made in 2021 helped Father Jean when he served at Holy Spirit parish in the western Congo. Our donations rehabilitated the church infrastructure, which was then renamed Good Shepherd Chapel, and were used to develop income generating activities to meet the physical needs of vulnerable parishioners.

Fr. Jean is now in charge of a spiritual retreat center and is the coordinator for the Spirituality needs of his religious order for all of Africa. He is also vocation director and in charge of the Biblical Apostolate in his home diocese of Kenge.

Fr. Mike has given us another opportunity to help serve Fr. Jean’s needs in support of his missionary work in the Congo. The Congolese Community and friends of Fr. Jean here at Good Shepherd are asking for donations to support him financially to acquire or help defray the cost of the following items:

Transportation – Fr. John currently uses a motorcycle to travel up to 200 miles and during the rainy season he has spent up to 9 hours on the road in pouring rain. A car would be a much safer mode of transportation and could cost $10,000 used and $22,000 new in his country.

Lodging – Fr. Jean stills serves some small village churches. When serving them, there is no room to sleep in or have any privacy. To create a sleeping area with solar energy for electricity would be $3,000.

If you can prayerfully and financially support Fr. Jean, it is much appreciated. Our initial goal is to raise $25,000 to cover the cost of good transportation and a room to sleep in when serving some small village churches.
